Naia Bistro

Naia is an enjoyable bistro that is highly recommended by locals but fortunately not (yet) overly mentioned in tourist guides. It’s located on a charming cobblestone square in the Latin Quarter of Madrid. The outside terrace is very inviting and most groups tend to linger until late in the evening. Inside seating is just as delightful, with wooden floorboards and mismatched chairs to create a cosy, rustic ambiance. The menu boasts wonderful Mediterranean dishes such as foie shavings with Ruby port reduction, red tuna tartare with avocado ceviche and monkfish over truffle and egg risotto. Portions are generous and the food is presented beautifully – definitely not what you would expect for main courses that are all under € 20! These people definitely know their foods, which might explain the periodic table of food on the window… Make a reservation to avoid disappointment. You don’t want to miss out on that Cheesecake de “Oreo” now, do you?

Pan de Lujo

Although this restaurant is situated in the most famous shopping street Calle De Jorge Juan, it is a true find that rarely appears in Madrid guide books…BIG mistake. Squeezed in between a shoe store and club Egö, the entrance does not suggest the size and grandeur of this restaurant. The large dining area in the back comes with an adjoining patio garden with a (not for swimming) pool. The service is excellent, the food exquisite. A good suggestion are the truffled Albondigas (meatballs) accompanied by one of the Spanish wines from their prestigious collection. The modern interior is rich in glass, from the wine cabinets to the walls surrounding the garden to…the restrooms. Although Pan de Lujo offers lunch too, be sure to come here after sundown to fully experience the restaurant’s unique lighting that changes in colour. Book well in advance to be seated near the pool. Dress smartly, bring your friends, lover or business acquaintance and enjoy a perfect evening out in the elegant Salamanca neighbourhood of Madrid.
